Senior Tax Counsel

As Senior Tax Counsel, Mark is a thought leader in the niche areas of estate planning, including GRATs, CLATs, IDGTs and INGs.  Mark is the inventor of a unique estate planning tool called the DIGT (directed intentional grantor trust). He brings income tax and estate tax minimization solutions to high net worth clientele, using sophisticated techniques which enable the efficient transfer of wealth from one generation to the next.  Mark excels at coming up with creative solutions to tax problems and “thinking outside the box,” as well as keeping clients on a foundation of sound tax principles.

Mark earned a Bachelor of Science, Accounting, with Honors from Brigham Young University, his Juris Doctor with Honors from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University, and his LL.M. in Taxation with Highest Honors from the University of San Diego School of Law.  Mark is a licensed Accredited Estate Planner®.

As an Eagle Scout in his youth, Mark continues his involvement in Scouting as an adult.  He serves on the San Diego Chapter Boards of two international organizations that promote moral and ethical values in business and the rule of law throughout the world.  Mark and his wife Janis have five children and 16 grandchildren and like to research family history, leading to a fascination with many historical events and travel.  He has been a member of the LevitZacks family since 1989.
